My paintings celebrate the potential for subversion within the saccharine feminine desire that surrounds us in contemporary culture. I’m exploring excess through color and surface, cleavage (the female gaze), and the reality of oil paint and soft pastels as luxurious medium.
In the face of an ever-pervasive rhetoric of authenticity in painting today, I want to invite you to and bar you from a utopia indiscriminate of real vs. unreal, one that’s both welcoming and unsettling. I see pretty images as cosmetic, deviant, bold-faced challenges to Truth. While I’m constantly thinking of ways to make the serene riotous, I also consider in turn, ways in which we as a culture make the riotous palatable.
