Carla Hernandez is an emerging artist living and working in New York City. Born and raised in Newark, New Jersey, she graduated from Rutgers University in 1999 with a BA in Fine Art. Hernandez went on to create several performance works that happened in galleries and alternative spaces in New York and New Jersey, including Kenkeleba Gallery and ABC No Rio. Whether questioning government or exploring the role of the artist, her playfully satirical performances challenged viewers and encouraged audience participation. Having left an intensely demanding day job to devote more time in the studio, she has returned to painting and drawing, and will attempt to integrate these mediums into new performance works. Hernandez has participated and exhibited with the New York based artist collective, Subject to Change, and became a member of Soho20 Gallery in June 2009.
