Only connect. I make art from materials like magazines, coffee cups, straws and electric and computer wires. I try to be straightforward about it: as an animal would make a nest or a swing or a trap out of what is at hand, I try to work in the same way. There is a necessity to the building that takes place in nature, connecting threads to branches, weaving fibers and straw together, connecting young to old, etc. To connect with the activity and ingenuity and the sensations as well as the loss of the natural world is a necessity for my art. As is to connect to memory, to time and to emotion.
