SOHO2O Chelsea Gallery presents "Procession," an exhibition of Ellen Hoffman's most recent body of large-scale acrylic and charcoal drawings. Hoffman creates a dreamlike world in which paradoxes of isolation and community, resurrection and destruction are brought to light.

The exhibit consists of several large narrative pieces, interspersed with smaller studies. In the drawings, journey as a subject is explored, sometimes coupled with medieval and early renaissance imagery.
The work is alive with conscious movement, characters rhythmically traversing the space and bound in common purpose. Exploration of archetypes of death and decomposition contradict personal symbols of rebirth and renewal. For more information or visuals, contact Gallery Director, Alessandra Duarte at SOHO20 Chelsea by e-mail: soho20@verizon.net by phone: 212.367.8994. SOHO2O Gallery was founded in 1973 in New York's SOHO district, as a non-profit, artist run organization by 20 women artists devoted to the mission of increasing public awareness of the excellence and diversity of women's art. |
