The works of Berube, Bisbing and Nix examine female icons and identity
transformation throughout time. Fossilized in Patricia Berube's gelatin prints,
female forms allude to ancient traditions of fertility and death. Elizabeth
Bisbing's paper constructions use powerful color to depict the contemporary
ebb and flow of the life domestic. Nelleke Nix engages our eyes to consider
"the chick," the accoutrement, the prop, in her mixed media watercolor and
blown glass works.
Hodgson, Bjork and Shellaby explore the ebb and flow of fluid organic
structures and symbols, utilizing natural materials such as wood, metal, stone
and wax. Lucy Hodgson incorporates reusable materials into her
architectural structures, referencing an earthly permanence that shadows our
temporal human state. Darla Bjork's encaustic and oil pieces provide a
needed sanctuary of natural beauty and illumination. Madelaine Shellaby's
digital prints reflect the complex and interactive connection to the earth, and
our long, mutual past, present and future.
