My work has evolved from an earlier process of combining organic and fabricated materials, each piece containing a sense of history as well as multiple references. This eventually led me to a more reductive approach of intensely layering and rubbing away paint on panels. The markings and colors reflect those earlier materials and surfaces, the end result being a unique amalgamation.
My intent is to create a visual discourse between microcosm and macrocosm. Whether the piece evokes a close up view of a precious stone or threads of a textile, or a distant view of the night sky or landscape, color, surface, and light become one.
It is important to me that the work elicits a sense of wonder and mystery, creating a deeper appreciation for the world around us, in all its temporal beauty.
