Petra Nimtz was born and raised in Germany. She was drawn to the arts from early childhood on. After extensive years of traveling, she immigrated to Canada in 2002 where she started her professional art career.
In Vancouver, she took courses at Emily Carr Institute and was inspired by English-Canadian abstract painter Carolyn Stockbridge.
After having studied at the Art Students League in New York over periods of time in 2006/2007, the influences of the New York School and particularly by painter instructor Frank O’Cain began to evolve in her work. Since then, her work has been shown regionally and internationally. Her art is collected in the United States, Canada and Europe.
She currently works and lives in Woodstock, New York.
