Life Lessons is a curatorial support structure. We set up conversations about doubt, anxiety, routine, and self-care through contemporary art. Our exhibitions and projects are not didactic, we promise. We take great care in leaving room for someone else because we know that we can’t exist on an island. All of this comes out of failure and uncertainty, forever “out for delivery”. And that requires a loss of ego. The New York Times is not about to write about magic, but Life Lessons is open to the idea. We’re still working on it and overthinking it but Life Lessons is for immediate release. We thrive on the unknown and play Truth or Dare at every party. Life Lessons comments on life, but is not life.
Known for creating her own path when one doesn’t exist, DJ Xtina Starr’s DJ career began out of her love of Afro House music alongside the struggle to find venues that played such hypnotic and vibrant sounds throughout New York City. A curator of vibes, that bends and blends genres is DJ Xtina’s approach to her music, rather than being categorically constrained to a just one genre of focus. Curious by nature, she loves an adventure and takes pleasure and pride in taking the crowd on a journey. Inspired by the sounds through the continent of Africa, DJ Xtina Star especially pulls rhythms from the southern region. On a mission to be your ‘go-to’ tastemaker for Afro House, DJ Xtina Starr raises the vibration of the people, one track at a time. To date, Xtina Star has been featured playing Afro House beats at Public Hotel’s The Roof, Mailroom, Baby’s All Right, and recent secured a resident every first Thursday at Ode to Babel.
