Several months ago due to circumstances beyond my control, it was necessary for me to switch to painting with gouache on paper after working with encaustic and oil stick on wood for years. Going back to the brush, after working with the pallet knife, was both fun and a challenge. I had always loved color and fortunately found the dense, vivid color of the gouache paint similar in many ways to that of the encaustic materials I had been using.
I have continued painting the window series but recently the focus has been on windows looking out at the landscape or windows that block the outward view such as stained glass windows. These go back to both my memories as a small child sitting through endless sermons in church and staring at the stained glass windows and time spent looking out the windows up in the country during the COVID lockdown.
