I have photographed vacationers, their hobbies and practices, for many years. Snorkeling is yet another way people from disparate landscapes insert themselves into an unfamiliar environment. In spite of absurd gear and awkward gaits, snorkeling is a serious business. Boats bring throngs of people to visit vibrant reefs, upsetting the balance of the eco-system: leaving oily water, discarded propellers, and a stain on paradise.
