Inspired by the old Irish safety totem, "Sheela Na Gig", this sculpture wards off evil spirits and people while protecting the space it resides in.
I'm a multimedia artist questioning shame and delight in human sexuality. Inspired by organic forms, personal life experience, and artifacts, I use illustration and sculpture to manifest these inescapable ideas. I am currently working with imagery such as the human vulva, mystical beasts like the Sphinx, and the Irish symbol of Sheela Na Gig. The latter two provide context into a historical depiction of lust and sexuality, while the vulva remains a relevant symbol and object over time. My work is provocative and brings up many difficult and uncomfortable questions, but encourages engagement with care, curiosity in pursuit of interpersonal connection.
