Artist Statement
This piece inspired by Villa E-1027, designed by Eileen Gray with Jean Badovici on the southern coast of France, becomes here less a structure than a memory of space. Drawn from its plan, elevation, and quiet relationship to the landscape, this composition gathers fragments of the villa and reassembles them as rhythm and balance.
Planes slide past one another in soft tension, echoing the measured interplay of walls, windows, and terraces. The projecting horizontal elements suggest the outward reach of the architecture, extending toward light, air, and the distant view. At the center, a field of luminous blue holds the gaze, recalling the saturated color of the Côte d’Azur and the presence of the sea just beyond the frame.
A faint curve emerges and recedes, like a trace of movement through space, while the layered surfaces create a sense of depth that is both constructed and atmospheric. The horizon is implied rather than fixed, carried in the alignment of edges and the quiet pull of the composition outward. What remains is not the villa itself, but its cadence, its openness, and its continual dialogue with the sea.
