SOHO20 is pleased to present Recent Works, a group exhibition featuring the work of sixteen artists working across a wide range of media. The gallery’s presentation of Recent Works, aligns with its mission to support women in the arts, a commitment it’s cultivated throughout its history, since 1973.
This compelling collection features new and recent drawings, paintings, sculptures, and video works by participating artists, who utilize both physical and virtual mediums to demonstrate continued applications and current developments within their individual artistic practice.
Recent Works is an exploration of the present moment and resiliency. This virtual exhibition, the fifth of its kind in the gallery’s impressive forty-nine-year history, measures the achievements of each artist and their ability to adapt complex themes and techniques that have appeared consistently throughout their bodies of work, to the unpredictable forces and challenges of shifting to a digital exhibition space.
The artworks in this exhibition distill the preexisting frameworks of each artist’s individual practice, to reveal new ones that have been constructed out of necessity—necessity to create, exhibit, and express oneself through art as a reaction to the past and an adaptation to the here and now.
Recent Works includes pieces by Elizabeth Bisbing, Diane Churchill, Laura Cloud, Edie Cohn, Anne Elliott, Lisa Fischetti, Ginny Fox, Susan Hockaday, Lucy Hodgson, Gongsan Kim, Afarin Rahmanifar, Debbie Rasiel, Madelaine Shellaby, Kathy Stark, Eleonora Tammes, and Gayle Tanaka.
